A new study from George Mason University’s College of Public Health finds that dental care can be a strong indicator of a college student’s overall health habits. The research found that undergraduates who keep up with their dental exams are also more likely to schedule eye and physical exams, have health insurance, and report a more positive view of their own health.

The event, held both in-person and virtually, brings together researchers and clinicians to explore innovative strategies to reduce inequalities in cancer risk, outcomes, and clinical care.

Global Health

WHO Launches Global Hypertension Report:

In conjunction with the UN General Assembly, the World Health Organization (WHO) is launching its 2025 edition of the Global Hypertension Report today. The report highlights that hypertension is one of the world’s leading causes of death and disability, affecting 1.4 billion people, yet only one in five people with hypertension have it under control. The WHO argues that scaling up access to simple, affordable treatment could prevent 76 million deaths by 2050 and save $100 billion annually in healthcare costs.

Cholera Fears in Pakistan:

Health experts are warning of a potential cholera outbreak in Pakistan as monsoon floods continue to cause massive devastation. Over two million people have been displaced, and overcrowded displacement camps with poor sanitation are creating conditions ripe for waterborne diseases. The British Red Cross has highlighted a lack of proper toilets and handwashing facilities in these camps.

European Partnership on One Health Antimicrobial Resistance

The European Partnership on One Health Antimicrobial Resistance (EUP OHAMR) is launching today in Brussels. The collaborative aims to address the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance by focusing on a “One Health” approach, which recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health.

Cholera Outbreak in Nepal:
